For the past few months, John Paul the Great Catholic University has been without a campus minister to guide the spiritual activity on campus. Austin Schneider has recently filled this position.
Schneider was born and raised in Michigan. While studying at Michigan State University, he grew in his faith and developed a love for campus ministry. Following his passion, Schneider then got his master’s degree in theology at the University of Notre Dame.
So far, he is really enjoying his job here at JPCatholic. “Probably one of my favorite things about this job, so far, is meeting all the students, getting to chat with all you guys, [and] going to mass. It’s just a great thing going here,” he said.
Schneider says he is excited to help the program grow and get more programs running to help more students grow in their faith. He commented, “No matter where we are in our faith, we all have to come together at some point for that rediscovery of the gospel and the richness of what Jesus Christ offers us. If S.O.U.L. isn’t your outlet to express yourself in that way, then we have a lot of other opportunities for you to express your faith. Right now, we have adoration amped up and are having it as much as possible. S.O.U.L. nights are on Tuesdays, and those are awesome, and we have spiritual direction, with some great people, going on.”
Schneider is a very kind and empathetic person. He seems to understand people and wants to help them as much as he can. “Even at a Catholic university, I would imagine that people still struggle in their faith, and I really want to help them out,” he said. Schneider encourages people to meet with him. He urges, “Please, come swing by my office. I would love to talk to people, and honestly, you’re saving me from emails, so it’s a win-win.”
